We arrived at Vigan after plowing through heavy traffic. The plaza near the old church looks very different from what I remember. Now there are several fastfood joints, cafes, bars and hotels in the surrounding area. Good thing there are things that didn’t change: the Spanish-style buildings, the kalesas (horse-drawn carraiges) and — best of all — the empanada stands!

Bring home some of those and some tobacco cigars.
rona added these pithy words on Nov 03 03 at 5:11 pmBy the way, naayos na ba yung Quezon bridge? I took a very nice photo of that bridge when we went to Vigan a few years back. Pero last year, may part ng tulay na gumuho. Sayang. It’s one of the nicest bridges we have in the Philippines.
J. added these pithy words on Nov 24 03 at 1:49 pmIts been so long since I’ve seen that place. Grandpa’s still dead and buried there; barbecue pork shish kabobs still sweet and tasty, I’m sure. Must be nice, celebrating in that rustic, old-world charm, hearing old folks haggling over the price of fish in Ilocano…
