After an entire year of working twenty four hour shifts on very little sleep and meager pay, I decided to take as much time off on the holidays, to recharge and to catch up on some non-medical reading. I just started my second year of residency and the schedule is much lighter than last year’s so expect more non-medical posts to creep in.

So how did I spend my days off? Most of the time, I stayed home watching mind-numbing cable television, listening to my CD collection, and watching rented DVDs. Christmas Eve was spent with the family — traditional noche buena.

On December 27th, I met Paulo / brownpau for lunch at Greenhills. We spent most of the time reminiscing about our highschool days, talking about politics, religion and the end of Virra Mall. (Check out his Greenhills / Virramall photo album.) Later that day, we hopped on to the MRT to check out Greenbelt and we found a shop that sold LOTR and Star Wars collectibles at obscene prices. Oh yeah, some photos…

Here is Paulo posing beside the original comic book panels found at the back of that shop. By the way, Paulo is responsible for this blog’s current design. Thanks, Pau!

I just had to take a pic of this — a great replica of Narsil, Aragorn’s sword in LOTR, on display at the said shop. Beside it are replicas of Gimli’s axe and a couple of lightsaber hilts. If you have 40,000 pesos to burn, this could be a good investment. Yeah, right.

Will be back blogging in earnest on the fourth fifth.
